Threadline: Cognitive Memory Platform & AI Assistant

A production-grade, memory-augmented AI platform designed for persistent, multi-agent contextual intelligence. Features turn-level memory extraction with automatic classification, an interactive Dynamic Knowledge Graph with multi-hop associative traversal, 3-tier temporal longevity management with exponential half-life decay and automated background pruning, immutable snapshot versioning with heuristic contradiction confidence scoring and 1-click timeline rollbacks, sliding-window semantic drift tracking with unsupervised topic density clustering and proactive preference divergence alerts, cryptographic cross-agent memory federation via the Threadline Memory Exchange Format (TMEF v1.0) sealed with HMAC-SHA256 digital signatures, an automated PII privacy scrubbing and redaction engine, OpenMemory MCP server integration for external client interoperability (Cursor, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT), collaborative multi-agent memory sharing, optimistic UI updates, and an enterprise governance and security suite.

Features

Core Functionality

  • Turn-Level Memory Extraction: Automatic background classification that listens to conversation turns and extracts durable facts, user preferences, project details, and communication styles without hallucinating or capturing small-talk.
  • Categorized & Scoped Memory Bank: Organizes memories into distinct semantic categories (preferences, biographical, projects, and communication_style) tagged with originating agent provenance, timestamps, and longevity parameters.
  • Semantic Retrieval with Recency Boost: Context injection engine that calculates cosine similarity against query embeddings, applying time-weighted attenuation and relevance ranking to feed high-signal context into LLM prompts without token bloat.
  • Natural Conversation Interface: Interactive chat workspace featuring live memory utilization badges, real-time context inspection drawers, and low-latency streaming responses.
  • User Memory Governance: Complete transparency and control suite allowing users to view, search, inline-edit, manually tag, delete, pause learning, and trigger full GDPR-compliant right-to-be-forgotten purges.
  • Multi-Session Continuity: Seamlessly retains context across distinct sessions and devices, allowing the assistant to pick up complex engineering workflows exactly where left off.

Advanced Features

  • Dynamic Knowledge Graph & Entity-Relationship Triples: Extracts semantic entities and relationships (Subject, Relation, Object) alongside vector embeddings. Builds an in-memory bidirectional node and edge graph index with deduplicated entities and weighted associative edges.
  • Multi-Hop Associative Graph Traversal: Traverses graph edges up to $N$ hops to discover transitively related memories (e.g. querying "frontend stack" associatively surfaces related "TypeScript", "Tailwind v4", and "React" memory nodes).
  • Interactive Graph Visualizer: Modern canvas/SVG interactive graph explorer in the frontend displaying live node clusters, relationship labels, edge weight thickness, and node inspection drawers.
  • 3-Tier Temporal Memory Longevity:
    • Permanent: Core biographical facts, persistent identity, and immutable coding preferences with zero temporal decay.
    • Project-Bound: Workflow-specific context and sprint goals featuring a 30-day half-life decay rate.
    • Ephemeral: High-frequency temporary instructions, transient scratchpads, and meeting notes expiring automatically within 24 hours.
  • Non-Linear Decay Curves & Recency Attenuation: Implements exponential half-life decay equations ($R(t) = e^{-\lambda t}$) customized per longevity tier to ensure fresh memories outrank stale context.
  • Automated Memory Pruning & Archival Sweeper: Background maintenance worker running scheduled sweeps that safely marks expired ephemeral memories as archived without breaking historical audit trails.
  • Longevity Badges & Expiry Countdowns: Live UI indicators in the Memory Bank showing active tier badges (Permanent, Project-Bound, Ephemeral) and countdown timers (Expires in 18h, Expires in 12d).
  • Memory Versioning & Immutable Snapshot History: Every memory update or insertion creates an immutable, timestamped snapshot record preserving previous content, trigger source, and version numbering ($v1 \to v2 \to v3$).
  • Contradiction Confidence Scorer: Heuristic and NLP analysis engine that scores contradiction severity $[0.0, 1.0]$ between incoming updates and stored memories, generating natural-language explanations and categorizing conflicts into none, low, medium, and high.
  • Version History Modal & Timeline Diff View: Dual-tab modal featuring a chronological snapshot timeline and color-coded unified diff view (- Old Content in red vs + New Content in green) with contradiction percentage indicators.
  • 1-Click Historical Rollback & Restoration: Instantly revert any modified or corrupted memory back to any prior historical version with a single click, recording a dedicated rollback snapshot event.
  • Sliding-Window Semantic Drift Calculator: Partitions memory vectors into temporal sliding windows to measure centroid spatial migration, computing drift velocity ($\Delta \text{distance} / \text{time}$) and drift acceleration over time.
  • Unsupervised Topic Density Clustering: Graph-community and distance-based clustering engine that groups memories into dynamic topic taxonomies with keyword signatures, member counts, and internal cohesion percentage scores.
  • Preference Divergence Alerts: Proactive notification system that detects when a user's habits or technical stack diverge from baseline history (e.g. shifting from Python to Rust, or concise bullets to detailed essays), suggesting memory reconciliations.
  • Interactive Drift & Topology Dashboard: Visual dashboard featuring metric cards, SVG centroid trajectory line charts, and active topic cluster inspectors with member memory drilldowns.
  • Threadline Memory Exchange Format (TMEF v1.0): Standardized, portable JSON exchange schema enabling seamless memory federation and cross-agent interoperability.
  • Cryptographic HMAC-SHA256 Seals: Tamper-evident digital signatures computed over canonical serialized bundle payloads, guaranteeing payload integrity and authenticating origin agents.
  • Automated Privacy Scrubber & PII Redaction Pipeline: High-performance regex and pattern engine that automatically redacts API keys (sk-*, ghp_*, AIza*), bearer tokens, emails, phone numbers, credit cards, and private IP addresses prior to federation export.
  • 3-Way Federation Merge & Reconciliation Resolver: Ingests external memory bundles with automated duplicate skipping, contradiction flagging, and configurable resolution strategies (auto, local_wins, remote_wins).
  • Memory Federation Hub UI: Complete frontend workspace with an Export Wizard (PII toggles, category selectors, signed JSON preview) and an Import & Reconcile Wizard with live audit reporting.
  • OpenMemory MCP Server: Implements the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to expose the unified memory bank to external developer environments like Cursor, Claude Desktop, and ChatGPT.
  • Collaborative Multi-Agent Memory Pool: Researcher and Writer agents share a unified memory plane to exchange research findings and produce tailored deliverables collaboratively.
  • Optimistic UI Updates: Immediate client-side state transitions for edits, deletions, and status toggles for native-app-like responsiveness.

Features in Detail

Dynamic Knowledge Graph & Associative Traversal

The Knowledge Graph engine parses memory statements into structured semantic triples (Subject, Predicate, Object). Extracted entities are deduplicated into KnowledgeNode representations, and relationships form directed KnowledgeEdge links with dynamic weights. When a user chats with the assistant, the retriever executes multi-hop graph expansion, bringing transitively connected facts into context that standard keyword search would otherwise miss.

Temporal Longevity & Exponential Decay Engine

Not all memories possess equal durability. Threadline classifies every memory into a longevity tier:

  • Ephemeral: Short-term requests ("remind me to check logs in 10 minutes", "use temporary port 3001") expire in 24 hours.
  • Project-Bound: Technical implementations ("working on Auth migration", "branch is feat/login") decay with a 30-day half-life.
  • Permanent: Identity facts ("User is named Alice", "Prefers TypeScript over JavaScript") maintain 100% relevance indefinitely.

A background decay engine applies exponential half-life formulas ($R(t) = e^{-\lambda t}$) and archives stale ephemeral entries automatically.

Memory Versioning, Contradiction Scoring & 1-Click Rollback

When memories evolve, Threadline avoids silent overwrites. Every mutation records an immutable snapshot. The Contradiction Scorer evaluates change signals ("no longer", "switched to", "moved from") and topic exclusivity (e.g. location or preferred framework) to assign a contradiction confidence score. Users can inspect the Version History modal to review visual timeline diffs and revert any memory to a prior version with a single click.

Semantic Drift & Topic Clustering

Over months of use, user goals and tech stacks migrate. The Semantic Drift engine partitions memory embeddings into chronological sliding windows, plotting the centroid trajectory in vector space. It calculates drift distance, velocity, and acceleration while clustering memories into coherent topics with keyword extraction. When a significant divergence occurs (such as switching core programming languages), the system surfaces a divergence notification with recommended memory cleanup steps.

Cross-Agent Memory Federation (TMEF v1.0)

Distributed multi-agent swarms require secure context synchronization. Threadline introduces the Threadline Memory Exchange Format (TMEF v1.0). The export engine redacts sensitive PII (passwords, tokens, phone numbers, emails) and seals the payload with an HMAC-SHA256 digital signature. The importing agent verifies signature authenticity and resolves conflicts using a 3-way reconciliation engine (auto, local_wins, remote_wins).
